“Buds”

you and I
unique, each in its own time
buds
you and I
from the same stem
sharing the same life
but your color is you
and my color is mine
buds
joined together by Him
He, not we, decided to draw us close
to reveal my I to you
and you to my I
buds
set in the lushness of spring
of peach, of light-green,
of a red-tinged nesting place
leaves thick with holding, transforming power
buds
coming together
possibilities revealed
personalities valued
purposeful communion
blessed union
buds
not just one, but two
sprung from the same stem-place
buds
openings into tomorrow
they grow, change, delight the day
not perfect, not blooms, not already there
buds
you and I
